Stranger than Fiction

Carrie and I don't go out to movies together much. Don't be sad for us, we have a comfortable sectional sofa and a beautiful big HDTV. Every so often we will swing into the local Best Buy for something else and walk out with a movie that we haven't seen. Today we picked up 'Stranger than Fiction' on a whim.

We watched it this evening.

Boy, this movie sucked me in. Without spoiling the movie for you, it is the story of Harold Crick (Will Ferrel), an IRS agent that lives a bland and ordered life. He brushes his teeth 38 times up and down, 38 times side to side. He counts his steps. His favorite word is integer. One day he hears a voice narrating his life. The narrator lets him know that he will soon die. The movie is about him figuring out what the hell is going on and averting that imminent death.

This is now my favorite movie, replacing the quirky 'The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou'. Both movies grab me because they are, shall I say, adult children's movies, if that makes any sense. They are comfortable... In some weird way I had an overwhelming feeling of happiness after watching this movie. I really connected with Harold Crick, maybe even felt that he was a bit of me... Not that I hear voices, I only hear music. Constantly.

Do you want to know the best part of watching movies at home instead of at the theater? By the end of this movie I was pumping tears like I was putting out a fire! Yes, I got emotional, and I am man enough to admit it. If I saw this in public at the local multi-plex I would have been embaressed. My sleeves were soaked! I haven't cried like that since that kid and yellow dog were reunited... Damn.

I you haven't caught this one I recommend you check it out. Hopefully you will enjoy it as much as me.
