A F1/Google Earth Treat
Have I got a treat for you, my fellow Formula 1 racing fans! (you non-fans may find it interesting too so don't stop reading yet)
This weekend I caught the Google Earth bug big time! I spent many hours spinning the fantastic cyber-globe searching odd corners for anything interesting. What could I do to make this more interesting for me (and hopefully you). An idea hit me like a medicine ball in the dark... Why not link all the Formula 1 races to their tracks, giving results and other pertinent information? Bingo! So here you go...
2006_Formula_1_Season.kmz
2007_Formula_1_Season.kmz
If you have Google Earth, and there is no reason you shouldn't, you can download the previous two files and get something like this for every racetrack on the 2006 and 2007 calendar....
Each track has links to the race results and track informatin on Wikipedia.
I am also working on showing all the current NFL stadiums. I found them on GE, I just need to tweek all the information until I like it.
Another thing that I have been doing is downloading data out of my GPS and plotting it on GE. If I would just get back on my mountain bike this would be awesome for giving trail reports on the blog. I have already done it with my commute to and from work.
Yes, I know that others have already done these things, some maybe even better, but that isn't the point. I love figuring out what I can do with these things, and how to do it. Much like someone that likes to build cabinets as a hobby. The trip is as much fun as the destination.
